Packshots - harder than you think!

So from the 6th. of February until the 30th. of March I will be attending school. See the way the photography education works here in Denmark is that you have to find a photography company that will hire you as an intern/student/assistent. It is hard as nails to get a place as a lot of people is looking for a spot and mixed with the current economy photographers have a hard time to even afford to hire an intern.

I was lucky enough to get hired by Line Klein and started working with her the 1st of November 2011. So now I have 4 years of working with her, and then once in a while going back to school where we will learn some of the classic traits you need to posses as a commercial photographer.

So the course I am following now is about working in a studio - meaning we will learn how to work with strobes and how you modify them. The focus is on 2 things; Products and Portraits!

This week I decided the use some of the techniques I picked up last week during our intro week. And this is the result:

The wine shot is compiled of 5 shots - one were the big label is lighted, the small label, the background, the lid and lastly a shot to give the light coming though the bottle.

And this Singha is 1 big setup with 3 light sources and tons of gold paper as reflectors!

So everyone, as you might notice, my blog is changed, both in design and mission. It now serves its purpose as an out lead for all I do and learn concerning my education as a photographer. So this is the place to be for everyone interested in photography and how my life as a photography student progresses!

It will be a great mix of my pictures, from all the photographic genres, behind-the-shoot pictures from when I'm out with Line Klein (who is my mentor/instructor and hardest critic - check her blog The Klein out, she is absolutely amazing!). I will also post some of the photographic tricks that I pick-up!

So lean back, secure your helmet and dive into my universe as a photography student!

Rødder in a Warehouse

Once again Rødder kicked in the doors to an almost abandoned place somewhere in Copenhagen. This time it was the old warehouses on Njalsgade behind Islands Brygge! The place is owned by Christer who runs it, check out his site here Il Buco - for an authentic italian food experience!

Rødder served 3 courses like last time, and had an amazing wine bar - as always stocked with fantastic biodynamic wines! The ambiance was amazing, the room was buzzing, all 3 photographers was shooting, danish paper 'Informationen' was reviewing and people had an amazing time.

If you haven't been to a Rødder evening yet - you should SERIOUSLY consider going next time! I'll most likely be there to entertain you when I'm not shooting pictures.

Rødder in the Brown Meatpacking District

You all know about Rødder by now - if not see the post just below this one. This time around they sat 49 guests and served them all 3 courses, not an easy task for 3 chefs working in such a small enviorment! They also had a wine bar where they sold bio-dynamic wines by the glass or bottles - at really good prices! And they had a wide arrangement of bubbles, white, red and dessert wines!

The dark, rough and rustic room was solely lid by candles, so taking pictures was difficult - but I tried to make it work :)

Rødder at Nørrebro

So once again I teamed up with the 3 extraordinary chefs Martin Marko, Solfinn Danielsen and Esben Grundtvig that make up 'Rødder'.

As explained in my first entry about them, they focus on local organic ingredients and biodynamic wines. This time around they served snacks, 4 courses and dessert and put the dot over the I with a home made petit four. All accompanied with mindblowing wines!

I hope you enjoy the pictures and that they do justice to the produces.

Next time I join them in Kødbyen, where they do a more affordable menu - you should come!

Rødder - Home Dining

Last saturday I collaborated with a group of chefs under the name Rødder. They do catering and host events with focus on sustainable and seasonal locally grown produce.

They took 14 guests through a 4 course meal, plus welcome snacks, an amuse bouche and petit fours with the coffee - all with an incredible wine menu.

All the goodness of lemons, limes, lemonbalm and ginger mixed with simple syrup and left to infuse overnight. Dilute to taste with mineral or sparkling water and serve over ice.

Stout Buns - Bake and Eat!

See how it rose during the night - bake in the oven - and eat with butter, raspberry jam and some finely grated coffee bean. Drink ice cold dark lager or piping hot black coffee with the buns.

Camera Obscura

So I just found this image I did/took last summer at my dads house. At school we saw a documentary about the history of photography - and one guy made a room into a camera obscura. He covered all the windows with black plasic, so no light could shine through. He made a small hole in the plastic, and suddenly on the wall opposite the window he had a 'picture' on the outside - Upside down!

It was so illogical and amazing that I had to see if I could get it to work - and I could. Its truly amazing, and everyone should try it some time! And have someone go into the frame outside, and you can see them move like a movie :)

Haiko was a real caracter that I met in Berlin. He is the host of L.J Fox Open Mic at Madam Claude, and was all the time anxious and nervous about everything that could possibly go wrong. That being said, he is a great guy and a fantastic host and musician! I stole a moment in the dark basement.

Flaming Dragon - Cafe Zapata

Okay, so at Cafe Zapata they had a home-build metal dragon that they could spit fire with. In a small cafe, and me and my friends unknowingly just under its head, got a major chock the first time. Quite the gimmick Zapata has. I couldn't catch the dragon in its entirety with my 50mm - but I hope you get the warm feeling from it.

I saw Japandroids at Loppen some time ago - and it was a hell of a show! Full of raw energy and tons of noise punk and noise pop! They are playing at Roskilde this year, and if you are going - do NOT miss them!
